Kimberly’s Journey
Kimberly Phares never set out to create a movement—she set out to prove she belonged
where women were rarely seen. Often the only woman in outdoor courses, she carried her
pack and the weight of being underestimated. She did not step back. She leaned in.
Every failure became training. Every success became a step toward building something
larger than herself.
On trails and ranges, she learned that outdoor skills aren’t hobbies—they are a language
of confidence, independence, and survival. If she could master them, other women could too.
If the culture removed ego and gatekeeping, women could rise together.
In 2019 she launched CharmedWOA with a clear belief: women deserve expert outdoor education
delivered with respect, safety, and solidarity. What began with a few women around a campfire
has grown into a community that inspires hundreds. Her leadership is steady and disciplined:
high standards, clear safety, zero ego. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is capability.
Today, her story belongs to every woman who shows up—nervous but determined; to every cohort
that learns, fails safely, and laughs together; and to every skill mastered that turns fear
into freedom. When women claim space in the outdoors, they don’t just survive—they thrive
and change the landscape for those who come next.
